CVED is a commonly used abbreviation for Common Veterinary Entry Document.

According to EU legislation each consignment[1] of live animals (pets not included), live animal products (i.e. frozen sperm, embryos, eggs) and products of animal origin (including food, feed and animal by-products intended for any purpose) must be subject to official veterinary checks in the border inspection post (commonly abbreviated as BIP)

All consignments need to be pre-notified to the BIP before arrival[2]. Pre-notification has to follow a standardized procedure as laid down in EU-legislation[3]. Consignments can be pre-notified by paper or electronic means using the application TRACES[4] (abbreviation for TRAde Control and Expert System) In both cases the notifying part has to fill in the first part of the so-called common veterinary entry documents (CVED), and send this to the competent authority[5] in the BIP.

Once the competent authorities have carried out the appropriate checks at the BIP[6], that include at least a systematic documentary check, identity check and, as appropriate, a physical check, they fill in their findings and conclusions in the second part of the CVED.
