Introducing ModSec has been assigned the following names by the government of Trinidad & Tobago (T&T) over the past 50 years:
- San Fernando Modern Secondary School (SFMSS – 1962)
- San Fernando Government Secondary School (SFGSS – 1966)
- San Fernando Central Secondary School (SFCSS – 2009)
ModSec is a government run co-ed secondary school in T&T. It was founded on the Les Efforts pond (previously owned by the sugar-cane estate) which had been already filled in the late fifties (50s), and is located at 40 Todd Street, San Fernando, T&T. Modsec was officially opened in September, 1961 but classes did not commence until February 19, 1962 which is when it was named San Fernando Modern Secondary School. For short, the school was referred to as ModSec. In 1962 the school population was 106 students; in 2011 (49 years later) the school population (comprising a melting pot of ethnicities, and creeds) is almost 800 students. ModSec is reputable for being one of the most prestigious government run secondary schools in the South of T&T.
ModSec culture
The school culture at ModSec is quite unique in its own right since it fosters a free spirited yet disciplined academic environment that influences both the academic and social development of each student. ModSec's motto is incorporated into the school's badge which each student wears. ModSec's mission manifests itself in the dedication of the school's administration that ensures no child is left behind. ModSec's school song has been memorized by every single student and sung at will with a sense of endearment and pride. The phenomena is that students and administrators alike come and go but the culture of the school, stays the same. It is the driving force behind the continued success of the school.
