explosante-fixe is a piece of music composed by Pierre Boulez for MIDI flute and chamber orchestra.[1] Boulez composed the piece between 1971 and 1993, and it went through several different versions with varying instruments during that time. The first version (1971-2) was written for flute, clarinet and trumpet. A new version (1973-4) added various string instruments and electronics. A 1986 version was composed for vibraphone and electronics. The last version, composed between 1991 and 1993, was written for solo MIDI flute with two 'shadow' flutes, a chamber orchestra, and electronics.
