The 9-Pin Protocol is an RS-422 communications protocol using a 9 pin serial cable that allows computer-interface and edit controllers in post-production to control Sony and other manufacturer's Video tape recorders (VTR). This protocol supports a variety of devices including one-inch reel-to-reel type C videotape as well as videocassette recorders.
