Athicode

Athicode is an old junction village in Palakkad district of Kerala state. It is the main junction to the towns of Palakkad(20 KM), Pollachi(25 KM), Coimbatore(35 KM) and Chittur (16 KM). Half of the village is in Kozhinjampara panchayat and other half in Nallepilly panchayat. The village's first settlers were Christians from Tamil Nadu, who cleared all the forest area which was full of Athi trees and hence was named Athikadu(Athi Forest) which later became Athicode. There was a century old Church and Mosque in the village, both demolished and a new one has been constructed. There is a new temple for Lord Ganapthy also. In olden times Athicode is the only village which had a Government school and an English medium school. Students from the near by village came to Athicode for their education. Athicode is also well known for its communal harmony. Moonu Rasa koothu(Three King drama) held once in a year at the feast of Saint Antony, represents three kings from the three main religion of the village. Other than Saint Antony's feast there is Kanthiri, a Muslim feast for Masthan Sahib, a holy man who was buried in Athicode. Vinayagar Chaturthi is celebated in a big way along with other Hindu festivals.
There is two schools and two marriage halls in Athicode and the village is well connected by bus to all the main towns around.
