Dear <author|webmaster>,

I really liked your <article|webpage|other>, <Title of article>! I found it very informative and useful. I would love to reuse it for a project I'm involved with called Wikipedia, so I'm seeking your permission.

Wikipedia is a collaborative project to produce a free and complete encyclopedia in every language. We started in January 2001 and are already working on over 50,000 articles in the English version, with more being added and improved all the time. Anyone can edit any article, without even having to log in. The content of Wikipedia is covered by the GNU Free Documentation License, which means that it is free and will remain so forever. It is located on the web at http://www.wikipedia.org. In the future, we may distribute it through other means (e.g. CD-ROM).

I would very much like to include your materials in the project, but I can only do so if you are willing to grant us license to use it under the GNU Free Documentation License. This means that anybody will have the right to share it with their friends, and update it, for example, to keep up with new information or to make it appropriate for a different audience. You can read the license in full at

http://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Text_of_the_GNU_Free_Documentation_License

If you agree to license your work under the GNU Free Documentation license, we will leave a copyright notice giving you credit, saying that the article was based on your work, while not falsely crediting you for things that you didn't write. If your original work is available on the internet, we will leave a notice saying how to find the original.

Please let me know.

Kindly,

<Wikipedia author>
