SignPlot is a software application for the design of UK traffic signs and their supports and foundations, developed and sold by Buchanan Computing[1]. Initially created for MSDOS in the early 1980s as a university project by Simon Morgan, SignPlot 2 (as it is now known) has evolved into a 32-bit Windows application. The degree of inbuilt guidance and intelligence has increased over that time to the extent that it now automates almost all the layout and spacing rules of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2002[2], Traffic Signs Manual Chapter 7[3], and drawings issued by the Welsh Assembly Government for bilingual signing.
