TreeBASE[1] is a repository for peer-reviewed phylogenetic data. The purpose of the TreeBASE project is to provide stable records and identifiers for such data as phylogenetic trees, character state matrices, multiple sequence alignments, and the taxa these data apply to. The TreeBASE project was launched in 1994[2] and his since undergone several redesigns. The latest version was initiated under the CIPRES[3] project and has been supported by, among others, the pPOD project[4], which funded the addition of a RESTful web service interface with CQL search facilities[5], and NESCent, which currently hosts the database and web server. Starting in Winter 2010, the governance model for TreeBASE is undergoing a reorganization to have it become associated with the Phyloinformatics Research Foundation[6]
