Expansion
I intend to expand this article, primarily using references from the research output of CRREL staff and the general framework of CRREL's official history. User:HopsonRoad 00:49, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- I will be expanding the history of the Second 25 years more slowly, since there is no one-stop source. I'm starting with a bare-bones introduction. User:HopsonRoad 13:06, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Removal of questionable entries
I've removed the following items from the article, as I found it:
- Mention of facilities in Alaska and Vermont. There have been such facilities (at Fort Wainwright, AK and Danville, Vermont), but they are not mentioned in CRREL's website.
- The claim that "The Hanover facility has been designated as a Superfund cleanup site by the Environmental Protection Agency due to elevated subsurface soil concentrations of trichloroethylene and other contaminants." CRREL is not listed in NH Superfund sites at http://www.epa.gov/region01/superfund/. There were elevated subsurface concentrations of TCE, subject to treatment by a specialized facility, but this was probably funded through direct Army appropriations, not the EPA. Mention would require a correct reference. — Reintroduced TCE topic with proper citations and NPOV(User:HopsonRoad 15:58, 13 March 2011 (UTC))
- Mention that "Ukichiro Nakaya from Japan attended a workshop establishing a "Snow sort committee" and SIPRE on a study tour to the United States and Canada at the invitation of the International Glaciological Society in 1949.[citation needed]" One individual's participation in a workshop is not notable in the founding of the laboratory.
Please properly cite any re-inclusions of these topics. User:HopsonRoad 15:00, 5 January 2011 (UTC)
- Note that the matter of Alaska facilities has been answered. A better citation is needed for the Anchorage office. User:HopsonRoad 13:04, 6 January 2011 (UTC)
Further information sought
I'd like to find open-source information on the following to round out the article:
- An aerial image of CRREL’s facilities.
- Images that exemplify CRREL’s recent activities — Implemented.
- Summary reports that describe the continuing history of the laboratory — Implemented.
- Summary of CRREL’s contributions to Laboratory of the Year (LOY) awards — Implemented.
- Updated roster of CRREL’s Army R&D Achievement Award recipients — Implemented.
- List of CRREL's notable customers in the past 25 years.
Anyone able to guide me to these sources would be welcome to do so. User:HopsonRoad 17:08, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
