The term protractor is used both in technics and surgery.

In surgery, protractor means a forceps, extractor or pincer, used to remove foreign objects from wounds or sutures.

In technics, protractor is a circular or semicircular tool for measuring angles. The units of measurement utilized are degrees.

Some protractors are simple half-discs; these have existed since ancient times. More advanced protractors usually have one or two swinging arms, which can be used to help measure the angle.
