Proposals, October 2010

Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.

If (after approval) you create a stub type, please be sure to add it to the list of stub types. This page will be archived in its entirety once all discussions have been closed; there is no need to move them to another page.

NEW PROPOSALS

Final speedway sort

Category:Motorcycle speedway stubs has reached 372 and Category:Speedway biography stubs has reached 322 after sorting (only a very small proportion had any type of stub-tag at all before). I propose to split these up a little:

As before, if anyone prefers motorcycle-speedway over speedway I'm completely malleable on it. This would make Category:Motorcycle speedway stubs a little small so we could leave the team stubs upmerged to it if preferred. SeveroTC 12:47, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

As promised - it should just be viable at 61 now. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:50, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Support based on Haitian precedant. Waacstats (talk) 11:41, 29 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

SpeedyDr. Blofeld 15:05, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To go with the Caribbean bio stub category: I have to do a little looking, but I think there should be enough for a category. If not, that can be remedied quickly enough. :-) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:05, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think we have a Category:Haitian painter stubs that could be put in there as well. Waacstats (talk) 20:28, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There will hopefully be a Cuban one soon...it lacks something like five articles, and I'll get to the books this evening. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 20:36, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

South American writer stub templates

We already have five - for Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Chile, and Paraguay; what of the remaining countries? I'd like to propose {{Bolivia-writer-stub}}, {{Peru-writer-stub}}, {{Uruguay-writer-stub}}, {{Ecuador-writer-stub}}, {{Guyana-writer-stub}}, {{Suriname-writer-stub}}, and {{Venezuela-writer-stub}} All upmerged to Category:South American writer stubs for the moment. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:10, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Haven't we got these already, speedy support. Waacstats (talk) 20:26, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Strong support, excellent catch.♦ Dr. Blofeld 15:04, 1 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I've just gone through all of Category:Turkey stubs, sorting and adding the newly made templates. (I can now say with some certainly that Turkey is full of banks, defunct airlines, and factions of the communist party!). {{Turkey-hist-stub}} has just nosed past the 60-article mark, so could be speedied, no? Grutness...wha? 05:10, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think we have some precedant for that being speedied. Waacstats (talk)

I've been busy tonight - {{Chile-writer-stub}} is in use on at least 70 articles, and I'm still running a stub sort. Speedy this, perhaps? --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 05:17, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

81 articles, and plenty of precedent from other countries. I approve the speedy. Dawynn (talk) 15:57, 27 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

British India Military Stub

The British Indian Army units were divided between the armies of India and Pakistan after 14/15 August 1947. We have stubs for {{India-mil-stub}} which was earlier used both for old British Indian Army units and present Indian Army units. The stub includes an image of the post-independence Indian army flag. Some of the British Indian Army units went to Pakistan, as such it is inappropriate to show two nation's modern army stub tags for the same unit. Before this leads to edit wars, it is proposed to create a British Indian Army stub, {{BritishIndia-mil-stub}} so that all former units of the British Indian Army would be so demarcated. This would aid Britishers and interested editors to develop these stubs seperately. The national army stub i.e. {{India-mil-stub}} or {{Pakistan-mil-stub}} would be added in addition so that stubs are appropriately grouped for convenience of editing by respective national military history task forces and interested editors.

A total of 143 stubs from 302 articles in Category:Indian military stubs would be relocated to the British India military stub, if proposal is accepted. The Brotish Indian Army units already have an article category, British Indian Army regiments which has 234 articles under it and its two subcategories. A new stub category Category:British Indian Army stubs would be created if this stub proposal is approved. AshLin (talk) 19:54, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Again...should just squeak past 60. With any luck, we can really winnow Category:European composer stubs down some more. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 17:45, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You know the drill by now, I think. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 15:48, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

J-pop albums

Another day, another album subcat to upmerge: {{2000s-jpop-album-stub}}. Same old, same old. 75.189.192.117 (talk) 05:49, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

We already have a {{Japan-album-stub}} would {{2000s-japan-album-stub}} be a better name or are you thinking of a stub specifically for j-pop albums specifically as apposed to japanese albums generally. Waacstats (talk) 11:53, 26 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Depends on whether you think J-pop and J-rock (probably the majority of what'd go in there) are sufficiently similar to be lumped together. 75.189.192.117 (talk) 13:11, 5 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Just to help out below, {{Netherlands-composer-stub}} has been nudged passed 60. Speedy?? Waacstats (talk) 22:28, 25 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Motorcycle speedway stubs

Surprisingly there is no stub template for this, despite having so many. {{Indian Given Name stub}} Connormlh (talk) 02:16, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

That would be {{India-given-name-stub}}, but we don't really have that many... Category:Given name stubs is only about a third of the way to the point where splitting it would be a priority, and a random sampling of the ones we have suggests that only about 30 are of Indian origin. Once this gets to a splittable size, it would perhaps make more sense to split into male and female names anyway. Grutness...wha? 06:51, 19 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with G, this doesn't look necesary at the moment (Surnames however!) and splitting male / female may be of more use. Waacstats (talk) 11:58, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Surnames perhaps...but male/female could be dicey, as I can think of a number of such names off the top of my head that are either-or (Courtney, Kelly, Claire, Carol and its variations, all come to mind.) --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 16:05, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Already have the tempaltes for this, the one problem is that we have an undersized Singer category, I propose that we delete the singer cat after creating the musician cat. Waacstats (talk) 19:16, 18 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
