Interlanguage can mean:

  • A learner's interlanguage (interim language), i.e., an emerging linguistic system developed by a learner of a second language. In this sense, the term interlanguage was first used by Larry Selinker (1972).
  • An artificial or natural language used as an intermediary language for automatic translation between many different languages. See pivot language.
