A Sunfish is an example of a popular boat that has an Unstayed Mast[1]
An Optimist is another example of an Unstayed Mast.

An Unstayed Mast (also known as a Freestanding Mast) is a type of mast on a boat that is not supported by any stays. Unstayed Masts are most often are seen with smaller sailing dinghies than larger vessels though the latter does have some models using them. Despite opinions that Unstayed Masts provide for better aerodynamics there are many problems associated with them. [2] One disadvantage is that unstayed masts cause significant extra weight because they require extremely reinforced deck and hull materials around them and downwind sailing is more troublesome with an unstayed mast.[3]
