Sanayee Development Organization

Sanayee Development Organization (SDO) is an Afghan non-governmental organization. It was established in 1990. SDO's programs focus on community-based peace building, education, civil society development and community health in 12 provinces of Afghanistan.

SDO's Identity

Named after [Hakeem Sanayee](1088-1166 AD) who was one of Afghanistan's outstanding poets. His knowledge of religion, logic, philosophy and literature was cultivated by his father and his own endless pursuit of life and Islam. As an organization that aims to provide opportunities to Afghans through education, Sanayee Development Organization is named after Sanayee as mark of his scholarly and literary achievements and his brilliant knowledge of Islam.

Mission

SDO contributes to the development of a peaceful, developed and self sustaining Afghan society through education, training and other forms of capacity building of individuals, civil society groups and government staff in the sectors of peace building, civil society development, education and community health.

Peace Building Program


The community based peace building programs of SDO aim to strengthen the social structures for constructive transformation of conflicts through addressing the root causes of conflict in order to promote stability, justice, goodwill and cooperation among community members. At the same time, SDO's peace building program paves the way for development work to be undertaken.

Community Health Program


Basic Package of Health Services (BPHS) is one of the major programs of Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan that aims to improve health condition of rural communities in all provinces of Afghanistan and decrease mother and child mortality.

SDO implements BPHS in Ghazni province of Afghanistan. Under this program during 2007-2008 SDO operated 16 health facilities which include 5 comprehensive Health Centers 7 Basic Health Centers and 1 subcenter. Under the Community Based Health Care (CBHC)components of this program SDO was able to establish 225 health posts at the village level. Each health facility in SDO's cluster is based on the BPHS guidelines and supplied with essential drug, equipment and all necessary items needed for smooth running of each health facility.

HIV/AIDS harm reduction project

This project covers the whole services of harm reduction for IDU's (IV Drug Users) that will be applied along with its main component opioid substitution therapy (OST) for IDU's to assess the feasibility of OST operation in the country.

Capacity Building Program

Capacity building department is one of the most important departments of SDO that aims to build the capacity of SDO's staff to meet the challenges in the area of their work successfully. Besides, this department actively contributed to building the capacity of other organizations that included local, national and international NGO's government departments, UN organizations etc.
SDO capacity building programs were well received by different organizations. In recognition to their professional work, this department received a number of appreciation letters approving the quality of the training workshops the delivered.
