It would be convenient to indicate that in the "democratic" Catalonia (or Cataluña in Spanish), autonomous region of Spain, the "fascist" politics are not over. Spanish language is prosecuted, children are not allowed to be taught in Spanish, and labelling your restaurant, shop or another business, in a language other than Catalonian is forbidden and you will be fined. Just south from Catalonia, in the also Spanish autonomous region called Kingdom of Valencia (where the Valencian language is spoken, and actually Catalan is a dialect of it -yes, yes-) you will find thousands of business labelled in German or English, for example, due to the great affluence of tourists, and nobody is prosecuted for it. By the way, to be precise, the Spanish Consitution determines that the official language of the Spanish Nation (which includes Catalonia) is Castillian (Spanish); its knowledge is compulsory to all Spaniards, and all they have the right to use it, being the other languages co-official only in the specific regions. So, Catalonian is not at the same level official in Spain, and (as usual in Spain), the Highest Bill is not respected, and Spanish, as well as Spanish-Nation concept, History and union is banned and prosecuted through the invention of local national mythologies that were invented not before the end of the 19th century, and in some cases, the second half of the 20th century. Anyway, prosecution of Catalonian during the 36 years of Franco government shouldn't have been so hard, since the language was not lost, publishing in the language was allowed and publicly financed (like the Basque language), although for official purposes only Spanish was recognized (with which, by the way I agree). —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.83.63.211 (talk) 22:27, 19 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Two members of my family were killed because they made a conference in catalan, near the Casa Batlló, in Barcelona. How can you say that the prosecution wasn't so hard? I can't imagine a harder persecution...

Valencian is a dialect of catalan, not backward as you say, oh my god, you don't know nothing, did you ever went to school? The ONLY historical LANGUAGE of Catalonia is the CATALAN. Its historical. But Franco tried to change it, and he almost reached his objective. Almost. Please, make us a present. Take a book and read it. If you know how to do it.
