UDT stands for UDP Data Transport. It is a protocol developed by the National Center for Data Mining (NCDM) at University of Illinois at Chicago. The protocol was designed to facilitate large data transfers over modern high-speed fiber optic networks. In October, 2003 the NCDM achieved a 6.8 gigabits per second transfer from Chicago, USA to Amsterdam. During the 30-minute test they transmitted approximately 1.4 terabytes of data.
