The UNK proton accelerator was a planned large particle accelerator. Construction started in Protvino, near Moscow, Russia in the late nineties.[1]. Plans had been made for a TeV scale hadron collider already since the 1970's[2]. The plan was to a 3 TeV accelerator with superconducting magnets in stages, where the first stage was a construction relying on permanent magnets and reaching 400 GeV. Later development plans contained energy increases and moving from fixed targets to a true collider. Construction was however halted soon after laying out the 21 kilometers of circular underground tunnel due to the economic collapse of the Soviet Union.[3][4].

The accelerator tunnels today stand abandoned as a moment to gone times and are sometimes frequented by uninvited tourists.
