Port City Java (“PCJ”) is the premier choice in coffeehouses and locally roasted coffee in Southeastern North Carolina. The company was founded as a single café in Wilmington, NC in 1995. Since then, Port City Java has grown to include over 30 corporate, franchised and licensed cafes. The company was named #31 in Entrepreneur Magazine's Top 50 New Franchises.[2]
Menu
Port City Java’s menu includes a variety of artisan roasted coffees sourced from all over the world. Port City Java cafes also serve a variety of espresso-based beverages, pure fruit smoothies, milkshakes, juices, fresh baked goods, breakfast sandwiches, lunch sandwiches, salads and wraps.
Port City Java operates its own roasting, baking and distribution center. Roasted Arabica beans as well as Fair Trade and USDA Organic coffees are produced in this facility. Port City Java operates an Organic Certified 15Kilo Ambex Roaster and a 60Kilo Ambex roaster. The warehouse also currently distributes Monin syrups, Ghirardelli chocolates, branded cups, sleeves and lids as well as Mighty Leaf teas, Umpqua Oats oatmeal and other similar products.
Community Involvement
In 2009, the company donated time, money and other resources to over 300 local non-profit organizations in the Greater Wilmington Area. In 2009, Port City Java won the Philanthropic Organization of the Year Award from the Association of Fundraising Professionals of the Cape Fear. In 2010, Port City Java won Corporate Citizen of the Year by the Master of Public Administration (MPA) program at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
The company also introduced a corporate volunteer program in which the employees have the opportunity to be paid for up to five hours per year for time volunteered with a non-profit of their choice.
