An acute Complication of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus associated with a high mortality. NonKetotic Hyperosmolar Coma is usually precipitated by an acute illness. The Serum Glucose is usually higher than 600 mg/dl, and the resulting serum osmolarity is greater than 350mosm. Ketosis is absent because there is insulin present in the system inhibits lipolysis. Treatment involves slow hydration and insulin.
