Help:Books/PediaPress PDF rendering
Appearance
This page documents the process how getting access to the PediaPress PDF renderer for Wikipedia books.
Why two different renderers?
- The Wikipedia PDFs, made available by clicking "Download PDF", are optimized for speed and for at-home printing on A4 paper
- The PediaPress PDFs, on the other hand, are optimized for quality and for professional book printing on A5 paper
Because this higher-quality rendering is very resource intensive and not very useful for at-home printing, it is only made available upon request.
Requesting access to the PediaPress renderer
Send an email to tools-access@pediapress.com, requesting access to the book-rendering server.
- Make the subject very clear, such as "Requesting access to PediaPress renderer" or something similarly
- Give an email account, which will be white listed
Requesting a book to be rendered by PediaPress
Once your email account is white listed, send an email to tools@tools.pediapress.com using that account
- The subject of the email does not matter, but you should probably make it a clear subject for your own sake (the automated replied of "Re:Book:Canada" will be clearer than one reading "Re:asdf")
- The email itself should contain the bare url of the book. For example "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Book:Canada" for Book:Canada. Only send one url per email.
- Wait for the book to be rendered before making another request. Users who fail to do this will see their access revoked.
Note that while some books will be rendered in 5 minutes, others might take more than 30 minutes.
Trusted revisions
To get a book rendered with trusted revisions, add "trusted" (in lowercase) at the end of the email subject. For example "Book:Canada - trusted".
- For more information on trusted revisions, see the WikiTrust website.
Problems
- Report problems with the rendering (i.e. things not rendering properly, such as a template looking goofy) at Help:Books/Feedback
- Report problems with the rendering service (i.e. if you do not receive the rendered book after more than one hour) to tools-access@pediapress.com
