This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Richard001 (talk | contribs) at 08:20, 5 February 2006 (This page was previously a redirect to Micro$oft, which would imply Wikipedia supports using the two words interchangeably. I've moved M$ content here, see the talk page.). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

"Micro$oft" and "M$" are satirical names for Microsoft, generally used by people who dislike Microsoft or disapprove of its business practices. The dollar sign symbolises Microsoft's presumed focus on making money, rather than producing good software. The term is often used to contrast Microsoft, as a commercial company, with the free software and open source movements.
