Hitachi Global Storage Technologies is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi, Ltd.

Hitachi purchased IBM's hard disk drive division, integrated their own HDD operations, and launched the company in 2003.

Hitachi GST is headquartered in San Jose, California, USA. In Japan, development sites are located in Odawara and Fujisawa.
