SendThisFile Inc. is a Web-based managed file transfer company operated by SendThisFile, Inc., which uses cloud computing and 128-bit SSL encryption to enable users to send and receive large data files through the Internet. The company was co-founded in 2003 by CEO Aaron Freeman and his father CFO Michael Freeman. The company has around 1.5 million* users and has transferred over 40 million files. *

The email sender enters the recipient's e-mail addresses and messages into the company’s web form, attaches a file and uploads the file to the company’s servers; the recipient receives an e-mail notification with a URL download link. *

The company provides basic features being for free and more advanced features for a monthly recurring fee.*

The service acts as a primary alternative to sending large email attachments that are typically restricted by email servers due to their large size.* Corporate email servers such as Microsoft Exchange Server allow companies to set limits on employee email attachment sizes and the email sender may receive a non-delivery report (NDR) as result, signifying that “their recipient could not be reached.”* No-cost hosted email providers such as Gmail will also restrict users file attachment sizes, which are currently set at 25 Megabytes per email.* These limits are set by employers to reduce server load which can impact server performance.*

SendThisFile is also an alternative to File-Transfer-Protocol, online file storage and the mailing of personal storage devices (CDs, DVDs, USB flash drives or Hard Disk Drives) via truck or overnight delivery services.
