Consensus was found during a CfD to rename all categories of the form "Image-Class XXX articles" to "File-Class XXX articles". This page describes the process that will be followed to achieve this.

Process
- Determine which, if any, projects want to continue using Image-class. (This could be those which have specifically set
|image=yes
in their class mask options.) - Get a bot to create all the "File-Class XXX articles" categories. The content should be the same as the corresponding "Image-Class XXX articles" category, with the following exceptions:
- The class parameter of Template:Cat class should be changed to
|class=File
. - If Category:Image-Class articles has been added manually then it should be removed.
- The class parameter of Template:Cat class should be changed to
- Make a change to Template:Class mask so that the default name for this class is changed to "File". Some custom class masks may also need to be updated.
- Get a bot to delete all the unwanted categories of the form "Image-Class XXX articles".
