Background

To provide the safe and effective delivery of medical care, virtually all clinical staff use a number of Health Informatics Tools in their day-to-day operations. The Health Informatics Dictionary is a Wikipedia project to help develop and standardize the nomenclature that Healthcare Administrators and other clinical leaders use in building the political, organizational, and legal framework on which to provide this care.

The need for an international Health Informatics Dictionary is further underscored by the HITECH act and other international efforts to develop electronic medical records. Often, the development of these electronic processes is hampered by the conversion process from older paper processes, which were developed without strict development guidelines.

Health Informatics Tools

Health Informatics Tools generally fall into one of the following :

1. Clinical Policies
2. Clinical Protocols (aka Clinical Algorithms, Clinical Pathways, or Clinical Pathways)
3. Clinical Order Sets
4. Clinical Documentation
5. Clinical Templates
6. Clinical Staff Education Modules
7. Clinical Patient Education Modules
8. Clinical Staff Schedules
