Could a cartographer join wikipedia?

Why isn't there a map of the thirtieth parallel with names on it? I click on the map and the red dots disappear, yet they're too big and the map to small to see where they are at thumbnail size. Why take up any bandwidth with a totally useless and pointless joke? --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 03:27, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not quite sure how to respond to this. It's a map of the world (which is what you get when you click on it) with the dots automatically placed on it by code in a template. It's only intended as an overview - if you're still not satisfied, then I suggest you buy an atlas. I know it's not perfect, but (in the absence of 180 ready-made latitude maps, and 360 ready-made longitude maps) it's the best that can be done. Feel free to replace it with a better map if you have one. Bazonka (talk) 12:12, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This is the story for all maps on wikipedia. You click on them, and they're unmarked vector graphics or larger images without any information. It's as if this is the point of wikipedia maps: crap. Of course I have to buy an atlas or use an another online source: wikipedia is clueless with maps. --IP69.226.103.13 | Talk about me. 18:13, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you can do better, then please amend the images. Bazonka (talk) 18:29, 9 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
