PHP is a Loosely Typed Language Loosely typed means you don't need to declare the variable before using it.

In PHP, a variable does not need to be declared before adding a value to it. In the example above, you see that you do not have to tell PHP which data type the variable is. PHP automatically converts the variable to the correct data type, depending on its value. In the above case it will convert into string. You can check the type of variable using some built in functions. This is a very good feature of PHP. In a strongly typed programming language, like C,C++,Java etc you have to declare the type and name of the variable before using it.
