The EFS or Encrypted File System is a file_system used in Microsoft Windows 2000 and derived/descended Operating System families (for instance, Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Windows Server 2003). This technology stores encrypted files on NTFS partitions in order to add an extra layer of security to the file_system.
