A paddle wheel is a waterwheel in which a number of scoops are set around the periphery of the wheel.

Usages

Pumping

A paddle wheel is only useful for very low lift pumping, such as flooding paddy fields at no more than about 0.5m height above the water source.[1]

Energy harvesting

A paddle wheel can also be used for energy harvesting.

Marine propulsion

Due to their ability to move water, paddle wheels are also used in marine propulsion.
