Adult Video of Japan

is a fast-track one-semester program designed to create a trained motion picture crew workforce in a variety of stagecraft specialties. The program is part of [[1]]Chattanooga State Community College[2] and is administered by their Humanities [[3]]Department as part of the Fine Arts[[4]] program. The program is also endorsed by the City of Chattanooga [[5]]Southeast Tennessee Film Commission [6] and certificates are awarded each semester after the student has completed the required number of practicum [[7]]hours, ranging from 90-120 in number, depending on the field of expertise. Qualified students are also listed in the local production directory published by the Chattanooga chapter of the Association for the Future of Film and Television in Tennessee.[8]

The film program at Chattanooga State is dedicated to training the many unsung heroes who work quietly behind the scenes and who are the backbone of the film and television industry. These persons include:

•Grips[[9]]
•Camera Assistants[[10]]
•Set Lighting Technicians[[11]]
•Location Sound Recordists[[12]]
•Location Scouts[[13]]
•Assistant Editors[[14]]
•Production Coordinators[[15]]
•Assistant Directors[[16]]
•Script Supervisors[[17]]
•Location Managers[[18]]
•Production Managers[[19]]
•Production Assistants[[20]]
•and many more

Students who have aspirations to be among the elite creative decision-makers on films can still benefit from an entry-level program. Producers, directors and cinematographers have a profound respect for the highly-skilled craftsmen they work with daily and traditionally have come from their ranks.

The Professional Film and Television Training Program at Chattanooga State provides up-to-date and technologically-relevant video and film production [[21]]skills. The film program chooses not to rely on major investments in hardware which can quickly become outdated, but instead works directly with professional rental houses to expose students to the latest and most innovative cameras, sound tools, and lighting & grip equipment. Field trips, hands-on workshops, internships, and other experiential learning situations make up the core of the training.

The program distinguishes itself from traditional film schools by providing a fast-track education to students interested in pursuing employment in behind-the-scenes crew positions. The program compliments the efforts of the Media Technologies Program [22] at Chattanooga State, which trains for "above-the-line" positions such as television directors, screenwriters and other key creative collaborators in video and film.
