Chakra is a JavaScript engine developed by Microsoft for their upcoming Internet Explorer 9. A distinctive feature of the engine is that it compiles JavaScript on a separate CPU core, parallel to the browser.[1] The engine will also be able to access the computer's graphics card processor (GPU), in particular for 3D graphics and video.[2] Microsoft claims that Chakra will help make the browser much faster than its precursor Internet Explorer 8, which has in particular been lagging behind on JavaScript processing compared to other browsers.[3]
