Current Protocols, published by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., is a series of laboratory manuals for life scientists. The flagship title, Current Protocols in Molecular Biology, was first published in 1987. Since then, the series has introduced additional Current Protocols titles in multiple areas of the life sciences including: Stem Cell Biology, Immunology, Human Genetics, Protein Science, Cytometry, Neuroscience, Pharmacology, Cell Biology, Toxicology, Nucleic Acid Chemistry, Bioinformatics, and Microbiology. As of 2007, the series contains over 10,000 protocols across 14 disciplines.
Scientists contribute methods which are reviewed by one of 14 Editorial Boards and edited to a high standard to ensure accuracy. The core content of each title is updated, and new material is added, on a quarterly basis. In addition to basic, alternate, and support protocols, units also include: topical overviews, critical parameters and troubleshooting guidelines, anticipated results and time considerations, and equipment and supplier information.
In November 2008 Current Protocols launched Current Protocols Essential Laboratory Techniques - Online, a comprehensive online reference that includes many of the most basic and essential protocols for the beginning bench scientist.
