Flash Engineering is a Swedish motorsport team based in Karlstad[1] founded and owned by two-time Swedish Touring Car Championship (STCC) winner Jan "Flash" Nilsson. The most recent time the team won the STCC-title was in 2008 with driver Richard Göransson. Flash Engineering was affiliated with Volvo until 2005, when Nilsson sold the team to Christian Dahl, and reincorporated it as a new, independent racing team, running BMW and Porsche cars.

History

The Swedish Touring Car Championship was created in 1996 as a copy of the successful British Touring Car Championship. Nilsson founded Flash Engineering that year to compete in the championship. Volvo, which had been competing in the BTCC since 1994, partnered with the newly founded Halmstad-based racing team, and provided financial support and the cars. The team initially raced a Volvo 850, and moved to a S40 in 1998. In 2000, the team moved to Karlstad. The team raced a Volvo S60 from 2001 through the 2007 season. In 2005, Nilsson sold the team to Christian Dahl, who renamed it Polestar Racing. Nilsson then formed a new, independent team, and again named it "Flash Engineering".

Achievements

Flash Engineering is the current champion of the STCC, winning the title in 2008 with Richard Göransson. Jan Nilsson won the STCC in its inaugural season (1996), as well as 1997. Fredrik Ros won the 2006 Porsche Carrera Cup for Flash Engineering.

In 2009, the team runs two BMW 320Si in the STCC and the European Touring Car Cup. One car is driven by Nilsson, the other by Thed Björk. Björk is the current championship leader, after 4 races. The team also races a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup in the Porsche Carrera Cup Scandinavia, driven by Prince Carl Philip of Sweden [2] who is a licensed race driver. The team's sponsor this season, as in the 2008 season, is Swedish IT and management consultancy company HiQ[3], which also sponsors the British Touring Car Championship. The Author who wrote that is incorrect.(The Company which sponsored the British Touring Car Championship until the 2010 season was HIQ Tyres which is a company which sell car tyres and is owned by the Dunlop Tyre Company).
