Nintendo Network Service Development (or NSD) was formerly known as Nintendo Special Planning & Development. The development team originates from Nintendo R&D2 and was mainly responsible for ports and inhouse development for low profile hardware like the Pokemon Mini and the Super NES BS-X service. Most of the software developed by this group has remained domestic having hardly ever seen release outside of Japan. General Manager, Masaru Shimomura describes the group as a small creative unit that has a hardware and a software team working jointly together to create innovative products. .[1]
