Simple username changes

Shortcuts

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions

Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
- Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
- Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
- Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
- Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
- be inappropriate, profane, or offensive
- contain libelous, contentious, or non-public information
- be misleading by impersonating other users or implying that you have authority
- be the name of a company, organization, group; or imply that the account is shared with multiple people
- contain emoji, emoticons, or non-language symbols
- contain the # < > [ ] | { } / @ : = characters, among other restrictions
Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
Place your request here.
- Add your desired username after NEW=.
- Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
- Do not change anything else.
Select Publish changes.
Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Reason: I've been using Шизомби as my sig for three years; in all that time I only recall two accounts, curiously both recently, ever suggesting a problem with it. (Wikipedia:Username#Non-English_usernames and Wikipedia:Signatures#Non-Latin encourage but don't require a partial Latin name/signature; non-Latin names weren't mentioned when I started doing it (username policy historical revision signatures historical revision. Perhaps I would create a redirect from User:Schizombie. I'd be happy with User:Шизомби as as username as submitted here (which is what it is on the German WP and maybe elsewhere) and use Шизомби (Sz) as a sig or even User:Шизомби (Sz) as a name, so talk page replies could use just Sz to abbreviate if they wished. There was a User:SZ, but only active for one day on one article five years ago Special:Contributions/SZ, so that shouldn't foster any confusion. Fair enough, though hopefully the e-mail I registered there is one I'm still using! I'd created the account de March 31, 2006 and had posted there in the context of a discussion about en March 30, 2006 and edits to en April 1, 2006 Andreas von Bülow and von Bülow's book The CIA and September 11 (book) de April 1, 2006 de April 7, 2006 and about Illuminatus! reaching FA de April 1, 2006 and added a userpage link here to my page there along with noting contributions to the FA of Illuminatus! en April 6, 2006 I hadn't otherwise used it since then: . So you mean that once an account has been created, there is absolutely no way that the edits in the Special:Contributions of that account can be moved to the Special:Contributions of another account? Not even any administrator in Wikipedia can do that or is able to do that? The records of edits in the history pages of articles absolutely cannot be changed either if the account has already been created? That's right. There is no way to merge the contribution histories of two accounts. No bureucrat, steward, or anyone else can do it (admins do not have access to the renameuser tool) - it's just not possible in MediaWiki. The closest one can get is usurpation, but that shunts the contribs of the targeted account to a random username (it does not merge them) and will not be done on accounts with GFDL-significant edits.
