Roderick Slater
Born in Goodrich, Michigan, Roderick Slater resides in Maine, where he has become one of the state’s most recognizable artists. He has worked in a variety of media, including oils and etching, but he is best known for mixed media works combining collage and acrylic paint. Slater’s collages are unusually seamless, and it can be difficult to discern which areas are painted and which are collage. While his works display the influence of cubism, their three-dimensional components render the strikingly contemporary. Despite their delicate appearance, Slater’s compositions are extremely durable and can be handled without fear of damage.
Slater has been exhibited in galleries, museums, and outdoor shows in nearly every state of the Union, at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, D.C., and in Europe and Asia.
His works are well represented in both corporate and individual collections, and he has been cited as an influence by other contemporary artists, including noted American collage artist Jonathan Talbot[1] and Anita Muise.[2]
