Ranger Assessment and Selection Program
RIP is a 2 1/2 week course held at Ft. Benning, GA. RIP is required for E4s and below to attend if they wish to be assinged to the 75th Ranger Regiment. It prepares soldiers many of whom have just graduated Basic Training and Airborne School and are still considered "fresh" recruits for assignment to the 75th Ranger Regiment.
The course contains map reading, land navigation, Airborne operations, knot tying, fast roping, and the history of the Rangers past and present. A soldier who attends RIP can be identified by his rope, and 2qt. canteen which are worn like a sash over the shoulder. If a soldier gets injured during the course they can be either recycled through the course again or place on worldwide status which means they can be assigned to any unit based on Army needs at the time. Drop outs are also placed on worldwide status.
Upon sucessful completion of RIP the soldiers (now Rangers) graduate at the Ranger Memorial where they will don the Ranger tan beret and will have the scroll of the battalion they will be assigned to pinned on there shoulder.
