Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

However, as this requested account has made no edits, it meets the criteria for being usurped; if you are an established user and wish to usurp it, please read and follow the process at m:Steward requests/Username changes. If you do not wish to usurp the username, please choose another name to be renamed to. The Rambling Man (talk) 22:03, 9 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: Don't be so alarmist. Most vandals are of the "hit-n-run" variety; i.e. they're not gonna care if their stuff gets reverted. It is extremely unlikely a vandal will care enough to harass or out you. -Jeremy (v^_^v Tear him for his bad verses!) 05:38, 14 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: I concur. Unless you've actually received harassment, there's no need to be overly concerned. bibliomaniac15 21:05, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Comment. I agree that there's likely no cause for alarm; however, if he is the least bit uncomfortable with having a username that has some apparent nexus to his actual identity, it's probably better to convert to a more anonymous username before issues arise, as opposed to later... user:J aka justen (talk) 06:47, 16 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: - You are very wise in not wanting the name of a corporation to be your username (this is actually against policy). However, the target name seems as if it may still bear some semblance to a company name. Intelligentsiumreview 01:12, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thisfluidworld → Jonathan Macdonald Bio

Clerk note: I have serious reservations about the chosen name given the history of the subpage in your userspace. We generally discourage such blatant conflicts of interest. -Jeremy (v^_^v Tear him for his bad verses!) 20:49, 15 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
