Van Meeuwen (also: Meijwes van Meeuwen) is the name of a Dutch noble family.

History

The first recorded members of the family lived in the 16th century 's-Hertogenbosch and Den Haag, and belonged to the political elite of that two cities. Two branches exist nowadays:

  • Van Meeuwen: descendants of the family in 's-Hertogenbosch and Den Haag. They have the title jonkheer en jonkvrouw.
  • Meijwes van Meeuwen: They have also the title jonkheer en jonkvrouw in the 19th century, a member of the original van Meeuwen family, he played an inportant role in the Dutch politics, taked the name of his uncle and were the name Meijwes van Meeuwen. Present take the members of this branch the name Meijwes, because the name van Meeuwen was around 1900 omitted.
