Philosophical fallacy

I've added the "{{prod}}" template to the article Philosophical fallacy, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Importance). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, or, if you disagree, discuss the issues raised at Talk:Philosophical fallacy. If you remove the {{dated prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. "Generalizes"

In this edit, you've got it exactly backwards. In fact, the law of cosines generalizes the Pythagorean theorem; the Pythagorean theorem does not generalize the law of cosines. To say that "A generalizes B" means that A applies in all cases in which B applies and also in some additional cases, i.e. A is more general than B. It's the same thing as saying "B is a special case of A". Thus:

  • The law of cosines generalizes the Pythagorean theorem. (Not the other way around.)
  • The Pythagorean theorem is a special case of the law of cosines. (Not the other way around.)

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, you may not know that Wikipedia has a Manual of Style that should be followed to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Using different styles throughout the encyclopedia, as you did in Majin Tantei Nōgami Neuro, makes it harder to read. Please take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. DragonZero (talk · contribs) 22:58, 1 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
