The International Standard Text Code is a unique identifier of texts as of 2005 in development by ISO. The draft number is DIS 21047. Responsible is the TC 46/SC 9.

Format

It will be hexadecimal, thus use numbers 0-9 and letters A-F. example: ISTC 0A9-2002-12B4A105-7

It is made up of four parts:

  1. registry agency element
  2. year element
  3. work element
  4. check digit

The check digit is calculated using a MOD 16-3 algorithm defined by ISO 7064. [1]
