International Standard Text Code
Appearance
The International Standard Text Code is a unique identifier of texts as of 2005 in development by ISO. The draft number is DIS 21047. Responsible is the TC 46/SC 9.
Format
It will be hexadecimal, thus use numbers 0-9 and letters A-F. example: ISTC 0A9-2002-12B4A105-7
It is made up of four parts:
- registry agency element
- year element
- work element
- check digit
The check digit is calculated using a MOD 16-3 algorithm defined by ISO 7064.
