TCP half-open

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Jec (talk | contribs) at 00:20, 19 September 2009 (Rewrite to mention both meanings of the term, change station to host). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

The term half-open, when referring to TCP connections, has two distinct meanings.

According to RFC 793, TCP connection is referred to as half-open when the station at one end of that TCP connection has crashed, or has otherwise removed the socket without formally notifying the other end of the TCP connection.

Nowadays, however, the term half-open connection is most often used to describe embryonic connections.
