Transmigration program
Indonesia's Transmigration Program
An initive to move landless Islamic peasants and other Javanese to the lands of Papua, Borneo, Sumatra, and Sulawesi. The idea is to use this migrants to replace native populations and develop Indonesian infrastructure, schools, and hospitals. In the past two decades the government has moved more than six million people from the crowded central Indonesian islands. Unfortunately, these other lands are covered by the majority of southeast Asia's remaining rain forests which must be clear fell providing wood plup for the paper market of Japan. As more people are shipped to colonize the outer areas, more ancient cultures and forests are cleared for the new settlers. As Java is primary an Islamic country and view the other races as inferior, where as Papua is Christian, and Borneo is a mix of native spirit beliefs; there has been considerable conflict created by this program. These conflicts has caused the World Bank to withdraw its support of this program, though Indonesia has recently announced its desire to fund and accelerate these programs itself.
