Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Current requests

Woodbot → Andrewcartwright

Kevinjohn1 → Kevin wilkinson

Newberry Library SC → Walter Newberry

Eagleaid → Mentordr09

Bureaucrat note: The use of company names in usernames is generally discouraged; I'm guessing that's why you're here. I'd be interested, though, in what "Mentordr09" ("Mentor Dr. 09") means, if anything. Caution is always best. Any other 'crat can feel free to go ahead and perform the rename if they think I'm reading too much into this. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 12:23, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Clerk note: Please provide a reason for renaming.--Unionhawk Talk E-mail Review 16:52, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: This username may classify as an inappropriate username under the username policy . Please choose another name.--Unionhawk Talk E-mail Review 15:08, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Clerk note: Moved from WP:CHU/U.--Unionhawk Talk E-mail Review 17:43, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Did he change the name after the first comment? I am trying to figure out what part of the policy it violates. MBisanz talk 18:10, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
He did not, but if you have no problem with it, go ahead. You probably know the username policy a tad better than I do. I'm thinking the "stoner" part could potentially take him to Username RfC.--Unionhawk Talk E-mail Review 22:12, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: I see no problem with this username in regards to policy. Javért  |  Talk 23:03, 7 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: I do not see this username as offensive. As far as I am concerned, it is not against policy. Anyone else want to chime in before we move forward? Kingturtle (talk) 01:34, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: yeah, 2 'crats and a clerk convinces me. I need to learn username policy, quite frankly...--Unionhawk Talk E-mail Review 12:02, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Works for me, no issues with the new name as far as I can tell. –Juliancolton | Talk 12:05, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have clearly stated my reason for changing, you change it, and then display my old username here? How about some privacy...

Bureaucrat note: I think Whifler52 is sufficiently inactive that this should be ok, as long as the new user doesn't have a confusing signature. MBisanz talk 17:42, 8 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
