Synthesis with no meaningful refs. These 2 languages are not closely related enough to be sensibly considered comparable; they're from completely different generations. One is a proprietary COBOL-like language used to script a server, the other is a modern, fairly open C-based language. Cybercobra (talk) 23:50, 14 August 2009 (UTC)

- I deprodded on the grounds that websites and books comparing the two did exist, e.g. [1][2][3], and I flagged up the page to editors at the ABAP, Java and WikiProject Computing talk pages. There was some discussion here: Talk:Java (programming language)#Comparison of ABAP and Java. I don't know enough about programming languages to contribute to the debate! - Comment The replacement of ABAP by Java as the scripting language for SAP does not automatically make them comparable; as a programmer, I can attest the change must have been quite drastic. --Cybercobra (talk) 02:54, 15 August 2009 (UTC)
- Keep. The existence of publications about both ABAP and Java indicates that a comparison of the two could be a useful topic that would be of interest to users of Wikipedia. Gary (talk) 23:29, 19 August 2009 (UTC)
- Relisted to generate a more thorough discussion so consensus may be reached.
