This is an old revision of this page, as edited by PDR1:47:41 (talk | contribs) at 22:15, 18 August 2009. The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Current requests

Mattlobato → Matt_Lobato

HeritageCommission → Jamiesheritage

Bureaucrat note: I'm hesitant to perform the rename, as it still contains "heritage", which is a cornerstone to all your edits. EVula // talk // // 16:50, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Evula, I'm a little more relaxed on it, as it's no longer a group name, but an area of interest. Interested in another crat opinion. --Dweller (talk) 09:59, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It would certainly be better if if didn't contain the word "heritage"... WJBscribe (talk) 19:49, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm in agreement with EVula and WJBscribe. The problematic username contained "heritage"; surely a target username that does not contain the word can be chosen. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 15:12, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Prajwal.theking → Prajwal21

Metaledgeinc06 → Easttexas1978

Note: This user went right back to promoting themselves after they were unblocked. Triplestop x3 16:43, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: Per Triplestop, do you understand that WP:SPAM and WP:COI are applicable no matter what your user name is? →javért chat 16:45, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I feel that some articles on wikipedia need to go through the same issues as mine. Some are blatant self promotion and are not flagged for "Speedy Deletion" (Metaledgeinc06 (talk) 18:25, 12 August 2009 (UTC))[reply]

At the moment, I'm more minded to restore the block than to rename you. If you are renamed, will you continue to write about "Metaledge Records"? WJBscribe (talk) 19:43, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Zapfin → Bunda1623

RuleOfThe9th → KidzaniaLiverpool

Bureaucrat note: – Just to make sure I understand: you wish to change to KidzaniaLiverpool because you prefer it in general, and because it does not refer to anything in the real world? —Anonymous DissidentTalk 15:43, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I prefer that name in general. Indeed you are correct, it does not refer to anything in the real world. Furthermore, this name is not present in Kidzania's current project, nor in any of Wikipedia's articles.--ROT9 (talk) 05:52, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: Please note that "Kidzania" is some type of gaming website or possibly an amusement park (per http://www.kidzania.com/). Though, the user is correct that they do not have a Liverpool location, I'm still a tad apprehensive about this request. →javért chat 01:37, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Me too. I'd like an opinion from other 'crats. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 06:52, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kidzania is an amusement park. --ROT9 (talk) 07:10, 15 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - per WP:ORGNAME, "...Your username should represent you", not an organisation. Please select another name. The Rambling Man (talk) 12:18, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, well. Since you bueraucrats accept the fact that this represents a company, I would choose a representative user name (representative for my account, not any of those institutions. Any examples of a good name?--ROT9 (talk) 12:28, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note:Anything that meets the username policy and is not already registered is valid. You can have Kidzania in your name if you want to, as long as it doesnt imply that you're affiliated with them (it says on your userpage that you're in 8th grade, so I assume you're not an employee). -- Soap Talk/Contributions 12:32, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What about High/Scope Indonesia? Despite the fact that I'm just a student there, doesn't that mean that I'm affilated with them? Seems like this has to be inserted in my user name. Oops. I just requested another username down there. Guess I'll have to stick with that.--ROT9 (talk) 12:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - User filed a new request below. Regards SoWhy 12:46, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's OK. I can cope with that. I always wanted to represent myself, not my school.--ROT9 (talk) 12:48, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AndersonsSolicitors → Andersons Solicitors

Can I not change it to that then?

Can I change is to Andersons please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by AndersonsSolicitors (talkcontribs) 14:27, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Andersons (talk · contribs) is already taken, but in any case, please choose a new username that does not in any way represent a company/business name. –Juliancolton | Talk 14:55, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

there are loads of usernames on here that are company names!!!

That is as maybe, and in due course, as they are discovered, they will be handled in the manner described in WP:ORGNAME. Please select a username to represent "you", and not a company name. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:09, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Can I just stick with my orignal then!

No, because if you make sure you read WP:ORGNAME, you'll see that editors with usernames like both your current and requested ones are usually blocked indefinitely, or until they select a username which is more suitable per WP:USERNAME. The Rambling Man (talk) 15:27, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A 'crat could probably mark this as {{notdone}} at this point. –Juliancolton | Talk 19:08, 17 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat note: The username you have selected still appears to be commercial. And as you have made no GFDL-significant edits, please just register a new account under a different name, but one that is certainly not promotional in anyway. Yes. Some clerks and bureaucrats said that the username must represent the user itself, right?--ROT9 (talk) 12:47, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: No, it doesn't have to. It just should not resemble any real-life entity as your previous attempt did. You are free to choose any name that you like as long as it's not forbidden by the username policy. Regards SoWhy 12:51, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Heh. Don't worry. You don't have to commit to a name change right now just because you've posted here. If you'd like some time to think it over, you can withdraw both requests for now and come back when you've made up your mind. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 12:55, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
