System Management Mode (SMM) is a mode of Intel x86 processors in which all normal execution (including the operating system) is suspended, and special some separate software (usually firmware or a hardware-assisted debugger) is executed in high-privilege mode. SMM is triggered by hardware via a signal on a designated pin of the processor chip.
