Crew scheduling is the process of assigning human crews to transportation systems, such as rail or aviation networks.

Most systems use software to manage the crew scheduling process, since the problem is computationally difficult and there are numerous constraints[1] to consider. These constraints relate to government regulations over duty time and required rest, as well as operational cons crew fatigue, crew bid requests, labor agreements, vacations, maintenance schedules, and other constraints related to training, pairing experienced crew members with more junior crew members, etc.
