Diamond python
Appearance
The Diamond Python grows to lengths of around 2 to 3 metres long. It is a black snake with cream to yellow markings and weighs around 4 kg. It lives in urban areas, forests, woodlands and heath of the coastal areas of New South Wales. It lays 4 to 16 eggs and the female lays eggs and coils around them to protect them and keep them warm. This maternal care, which is uncommon in snakes, ceases once the offspring hatch. The diamond python is also under threat of being endangered because of people destroying the snake’s habitat. It is nocturnal. Its main prey is small mammals, bats, birds, and lizards and the snake is Non-venomous but can inflict a painful bite. The Teeth can also break off and remain embedded in the victim.
